So, what does heartburn feel like?
Heartburn is a pain which starts behind the breast bone and reaches the mouth. Sometimes it may reach to throat, neck and jaw. The pain sometimes is so severe that it may seem like a heart attack. What does heartburn feels like can also be a minor chest pain due to bending down position or immediately lying down after eating a heavy meal.
Heartburn usually occurs in the evening after a hot spicy meal, or a meal that is eaten too close to bed time, or a meal that is rushed through. Avoid rich and spicy foods. Heartburn could be brought about by chocolate and creamy desserts. Foods full of acid like tomatoes or oranges can lead to heartburn. Even milk can lead to heartburn. Milk at the time of heartburn can satisfy it but after sometime that is within half an hour it can lead to the further production of acid into the stomach resulting in further problem of heartburn.
What does heartburn feels like has already been answered in the above paragraph. Minimizing foods which contain acid may help, and knowing and avoiding food items which cause heartburn may eliminate heartburn altogether. Also avoiding spicy and oily food can result into the control of heartburn. Taking a short walk or sitting upright for a while after a meal allows the food to digest and allows the acids to escape after an overfull stomach.
Summary:
Finally, heartburn is a condition where there is considerable discomfort and pain in the chest when the digestive system does not close so well or relaxes after heavy meal, allowing the stomach acids to rise to the throat and the person has no idea what does heartburn feel like and may at times think that it is a heart attack.
